BREAST MRI

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is an advanced and painless scan that allows doctors to look at the soft tissues of the body without the use of x-rays.

It is a non-invasive imaging modality which uses a very strong magnet, radiofrequency waves and a powerful computer to produce detailed cross-sectional images inside the body. It is especially helpful to collect pictures of soft tissue, such as organs and muscles, that don’t show up on X-ray examinations.

Detailed MR images allow doctors to evaluate various parts of the breast to determine the presence of certain diseases. MRI offers valuable information about many breast conditions that cannot be obtained by other imaging modalities, such as mammography or ultrasound.

The Centre’s Breast MRIs are performed on a Siemens MRI machine with an eight channel Sentinelle breast imaging coil, utilising protocols developed by Dr. Bruce Porter, the pioneer of Breast MRI. Dr Porter visited the facility in 2014.

Our experience technologists provide the highest quality patient imaging in a calm, relaxing environment. Dr O'Connor is one of the most experienced breast MRI readers in Queensland.
