FACET

WHAT IS A FACET JOINT INJECTION?

A facet joint injection is an injection of cortisone and long lasting local anaesthetic (6 hours) that gives relief from pain.  This procedure is potentially both diagnostic and therapeutic in that it can also help in locating the source of pain. The procedure is performed under local anaesthetic.  A spinal needle is inserted into position under the guidance of a CT scanner.  Once in the correct position the cortisone and anaesthetic is injected into the appropriate facet joint/s to reduce your symptoms.
