ULTRASOUND INJECTION

WHAT IS AN ULTRASOUND GUIDED JOINT INJECTION?

An ultrasound guided joint injection is an injection of cortisone and long lasting local anaesthetic (6 hours) into the joint providing relief from pain.  A small needle will be inserted into position with the guidance of an ultrasound scanner.  Once in the correct position, the cortisone and anaesthetic is injected into the appropriate joint capsule to reduce your symptoms.
