X-Ray

X-Ray

X-Ray imaging involves passing a small amount of radiation through a targeted area of the body to create detailed images. Different tissues absorb radiation at varying levels, with dense structures like bones appearing white, and softer tissues, such as muscles, showing up in shades of grey. As one of the most commonly used medical imaging techniques, X-Rays are quick, efficient, and widely used to examine various parts of the body.

Depending on the type of X-Ray required, the procedure may involve standing or lying down. While the process is completely painless, some positioning required during the scan might cause minor discomfort. A referral from a medical practitioner is necessary to undergo an X-Ray.

At Coastal Medical Imaging, our Centre’s BE Briva ‘True Digital’ X-Ray machine provides virtually instantaneous images for our Radiologist to assess and diagnose your examination. Whatever reason you need an X-Ray, you can rest assured that we will provide clear accurate imaging with low radiation and no appointments are not required. Simply visit our clinics at your convenience, and our team will assist you promptly.

FAQs

No, you do not need an appointment for an X-Ray at Coastal Medical Imaging. While we aim to keep waiting times minimal, please note there may be busy periods during the day.

No special preparation is required for an X-Ray. However, you may need to wear an examination gown if necessary. To make the process smoother, we recommend wearing loose-fitting clothing without metal components like zippers, buttons, or buckles.

Please ensure you bring the following:

  • Your referral or request form from a medical practitioner.
  • Medicare or DVA card (if applicable).
  • For work-related injuries, a WorkCover claim number may be needed. If you plan to lodge a claim, inform our staff upon arrival.

Upon arrival, a qualified radiographer will guide you to the examination room, explain the procedure, and provide any necessary instructions. Depending on the type of X-Ray, you may need to lie down on a table or stand upright. After the scan, a radiologist—a specialist in interpreting medical images—will review the results and prepare a report for your referring doctor.

Most Medicare-eligible X-Ray services are bulk billed at Coastal Medical Imaging. However, certain examinations may involve additional fees. Our team will inform you in advance if any charges apply to your scan.

Reports are typically ready within 24 to 48 hours. If your healthcare provider has requested immediate results, please inform our staff. For urgent cases, we will prioritise the exam and work with the radiologist to expedite the report.
